I’m the Publicity Manager for Gollancz. If you’ve seen the movie Bridget Jones’ Diary, you’ll know a book publicity job involves answering the phone every three hours and never having a single book on your desk. In reality, I answer the phone a lot and my desk and shelves are groaning in books. I also don’t look anything like Renée Zellweger. When I am at my desk I’m trying to rustle up press coverage for authors in print and online and, when I’m occasionally let out, I can be found escorting authors on bookshop tours and to conventions. Knightmare: A Guest Post by Tony Lee Williams

In the Summer of 1998, instead of playing football with my twelve year old friends, I was having a Knightmare. Successfully passing the audition process, we arrive at the reception of Anglia Studios in Norwich. Here we meet the current team from Oxfordshire (who will go on to be the first team to conquer the dungeon). The production always holds one team in reserve as they never know when the next team will finish.
Taking us down to the studio to begin our adventure, we cross the floor over cables and past cameras to the three stools that sit in front of the chest. Treguard sits behind us and we do a run through of the first room to get rid of any nerves. I look up from the television in the chest, which is the same as for the viewer at home, and see one of the production staff walking around in red slippers.

This post has been a little while in coming. Truth be told I hadn’t much expected it to ever happen – after all, ask anyone and they’ll tell you short story collections don’t sell in the UK. And yet here I am, with another lovely Larry Rostant cover to admire and my name on another book. Now they’re all special – you publish a book that isn’t special to you and it either will be your last or should be. Even for a professional author, each one remains a constant for a period of your life and should trigger an emotion as strong as the smell of freshly cut grass. Where you wrote the book, who you lived with or drank with – they’re all bound up with each one but God Tattoo encompassed most of my adult life as it turned out.

Gollancz Acquires The Gospel of Loki by Joanne Harris

Best-selling author Joanne Harris is joining the world famous Gollancz list with a brand new adult fantasy novel based on Norse mythology.
Gollancz, the SF and fantasy imprint of the Orion Publishing Group, has secured world rights, including audio and translation, for The Gospel of Loki in a substantial six-figure two book deal struck by Gollancz Deputy Publishing Director Jon Wood and agent Peter Robinson of Rogers, Coleridge & White.
