This autumn millions of fans of the hit HBO® fantasy television series Game of Thrones will be able to delve deeper into their favourite show when Gollancz publishes the only official behind-the-scenes companion Inside HBO’s Game of Thrones.

Inside HBO’s Game of Thrones, by Bryan Cogman, one of the show’s writers, is a lavish guide to the hugely successful series which is based on the bestselling fantasy novels A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. The book documents the painstaking and meticulous process of bringing Martin’s richly imagined fantasy world of Westeros, and its cast of both heroic and despicable characters, to television.

Featuring a foreword by Martin and an introduction by show creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the full colour book includes character profiles, family trees, production photographs, costume designs, maps and interviews with the cast and crew. Beautifully designed throughout, it is a stunning, essential guide for fans that will further expand on the mysteries of the Seven Kingdoms and how the production achieved stunning synergy with the novels.

A Song of Ice and Fire is one of the most ambitious epic sagas in modern literature that has enthralled millions of readers for over 15 years. It follows a huge cast of kings, queens, nobleman, traitors, knights and warriors as they vie for the Iron Throne and ultimate control of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros against a backdrop of love, lust, blood and death.

“The extraordinarily talented actors and artisans who work tirelessly to bring Game of Thrones to life are unequalled anywhere,” stated Cogman. “This book is a tribute to them. It’s been a joy to write for this fantastic series and an honour to put together this book, which I hope will please fans, both old and new.”

Inside HBO’s Game of Thrones was acquired for Gollancz by Orion Deputy CEO and Publisher Malcolm Edwards from Johan Almqvist, Senior Manager, Subsidiary Rights, at Chronicle Books in San Francisco. Gollancz will publish Inside HBO’s Game of Thrones on 20 September 2012 as a £25 hardback.

I’m the Publicity Manager for Gollancz. If you’ve seen the movie Bridget Jones’ Diary, you’ll know a book publicity job involves answering the phone every three hours and never having a single book on your desk. In reality, I answer the phone a lot and my desk and shelves are groaning in books. I also don’t look anything like Renée Zellweger. When I am at my desk I’m trying to rustle up press coverage for authors in print and online and, when I’m occasionally let out, I can be found escorting authors on bookshop tours and to conventions. Three things make me very happy: Cake, beer and Wonder Woman. You can also follow me on Twitter: @jon_weir
