About Team Gollancz

gillianGillian is the Publishing Director. She joined the team in 2004 and isn’t sure she’s left the office since. She loves travel, challenges and good fantasy novels, hates being bored and is largely ambivalent about chocolate. When not working in the Gollancz Dungeons she reads, practises archery, knits, conducts a never-ending war against her garden and doesn’t spend enough time in the gym . . . You can follow her on twitter: @GillianRedfearn

darrenDarren is Gollancz’s Digital Publisher. People ask him what that means and, upon comparing answers, he finds that he’s told everyone something different. That’s because it’s the future and it’s changing all the time; at least, that’s his story and he’s sticking to it. When he’s not digitising thousands of classics for our fabulous SF Gateway project, he likes to bore people rigid about SF & Fantasy, comics, cricket, football and Belgian beer. This can only be prevented by bringing him drinks.

marcusMarcus joined Gollancz as an Editor at the beginning of 2011, and is greatly enjoying the chance to work on the kind of books he’s always read. His shelves at home are groaning. Previously, he spent ten years as a bookseller for Blackwell’s, ending up as Sales Manager for their flagship London shop on Charing Cross Road. He lives with his partner, a historian and novelist, and their very small child, who is going to know more about SFF then anyone else at nursery. This may not be a good thing.

Rachel is Senior Editor at Gollancz and will be the first person to hop into the DeLorean when it’s finally realised so she can complete the important task of telling her 16-year-old self that one day she’ll be working with incredible authors that previously only existed on her shelves. Prior to being at Gollancz, she worked at HarperVoyager, Manchester University Press as a commissioning editor, and did a wild stint working for a pedigree dog newspaper despite (whisper it) not being a dog person. You can usually find her eating Maltesers while reading a good book, and on twitter @Frostycheeks (a handle she regrets but can’t bring herself to change).

charlieCharlie Panayiotou (try pronouncing that) works as Editorial Manager for Gollancz. Possibly the only person at Orion with a BSc, he spends too much money on CDs rather than just downloading everything and reads various Japanese comics. If you want to make friends with him, just tell him how much you hate The Big Bang Theory.

emilyEmily is an Assistant Editor with the Gollancz team and assists with all things SF Gateway. As a long-time fan of SFF, she feels a bit like she cheated somewhere along the way by landing a job that she can honestly say she loves doing. When she’s not stuck in a book (a rare thing these days, indeed), she spends her time drawing digitally and has a particular fondness of manga and anime.

Craig has reached Gollancz via a circuitous route involving many countries, some rather strange jobs and several degrees. Along the way he was never far from a book, which usually involved swords, spaceships and quite a lot of magic. After moving back to the UK and completing an MA he moved to London where he has lived and breathed all things genre while working for Forbidden Planet, and is now happily bemused to be working for Gollancz and having a hand in putting more fantastic fiction on the shelves. You can follow him on Twitter: @_Lionwalker (and yes . . . he does regret his choice in Twitter handle)

Mark is the Online Key Accounts Director at the Orion Publishing Group. He also writes and is currently working on a number of script projects, including OUR ROBOT OVERLORDS for director Jon Wright and Piers Tempest’s Tempo Productions. You can follow him on Twitter @markstay or or read his blog at: https://markstaywrites.com/

jen Jen is Marketing Manager at Gollancz and Orion. Originally from New York, she talks too loud (and far too fast). When not marketing books she reads too much, writes a little and travels as much as possible. She has a weakness for brilliant genre and YA novels, fairytales, mythology, chocolate tea and trashy American TV. She also has a pathological hatred of mayo. You can follow her on Twitter: @gennmcmenemy

Cait is Marketing Manager at Orion and Gollancz, by way of HarperVoyager and Hot Key Books. Outside of work, you’ll find her in  one of two places: with her nose in a book, or at the cinema – so ask her about the latest Marvel film for opinions abound! You can find Cait on twitter at the extremely unimaginative (but not at all regrettable) @CaitDavies

Paul H is the Senior Production Controller in charge of getting all the lovely Gollancz books made. He took on the Gollancz list in 2007 and hasn’t stopped reading SFF since.

Paul S is the Audio & Digital Manager. After a childhood reading Terry Pratchett and Anne McCaffrey, Paul Stark fell into publishing following a Christmas selling books and eighteen months working in stripes in an American themed restaurant. After three years selling sub-rights he is now a member of the Orion audio and digital team. He lives in Blackheath in south east London, and his favourite authors are Patrick Rothfuss, Scott Lynch, Joe Abercrombie and Téa Obreht. He also knows how to make balloon animals.
