We are delighted to announce the acquisition of a pair of brand-new fantasy novels from author Edward Cox, who was nominated for the British Society Fantasy award for best debut and best fantasy with his first novel, The Relic Guild.
Our Editorial Director Marcus Gipps acquired UK & Commonwealth rights to The Song of the Sycamore and an untitled further fantasy from Howard Morhaim of the Morhaim Literary Agency. Marcus Gipps said: ‘Ed is one of the nicest people in fantasy, and has a remarkable voice and ability to create new lands and adventures. I’m delighted to welcome him back to the list and look forward to the world meeting the horror that is Sycamore.’
On the broken world of Urdezha, Wendal Finn died on the hostile plains of the wasteland, one more casualty in the endless war between the city-dwellers and the clansfolk. But now Wendal has returned to his home city of Old Castle, possessed by something he brought back from the wasteland, something old and best left forgotten. Legend calls it Sycamore, an ancient entity out to avenge all victims of murder. And in a city like Old Castle, no one is innocent.
But the clans are massing. A supernatural storm is raging across the wasteland. It has already destroyed one city, and now it is heading for Old Castle. And the only one who might prevent oblivion is the murderous entity who the spirits are calling Sycamore…
Edward Cox said: ‘Over the moon to be working with the Gollancz Gang once again. Feels like coming home to a welcoming house. The Song of the Sycamore had a long, hard road to travel, but now I can’t wait for readers to get their hands on it.’
Edward Cox began writing stories at school as a way to pass time in boring lessons. It was a hobby he dabbled with until the late 80’s when he discovered the works of David Gemmell, which not only cemented his love of fantasy but also encouraged a hobby to become something much more serious. Currently living in Essex with his wife and daughter, Edward is mostly surrounded by fine greenery and spiders the size of his hand.
