Kit Berry on Stonewylde – only £1.49 this month

We have a guest post from Kit Berry, author of the Stonewylde series, today: I sold the Stonewylde series to Gollancz back in 2010, despite misgivings. The world I’d created wasn’t your run-of-the-mill fantasy; no swords, little blood, not an elf, dragon or ancient portal in sight. There is a Dark Lord (the eponymous Magus of the first title) and there’s natural magic, a flawed hero and of course the prophecy/quest. And a crow. But really, Stonewylde is not epic/ high/ urban/ romantic or even mythic fantasy, and as I sat at the top of Gollancz Towers with my agent…

Kit Berry’s Halloween

Kit Berry, author of the Stonewylde series, tells Gollancz about her Halloween… Today is Hallowe’en, one of my favourite festivals.  The Celts called it Samhain meaning ‘summer’s end’, and it spanned a few days and nights from the end of October into early November – roughly halfway between the fixed solar festivals of the Autumn Equinox and the Winter Solstice. Blue Moon- A Guest Post from Kit Berry

Did you know tonight is a Blue Moon? Gollancz is pleased to be bringing you a special guest post by Kit Berry, the critically acclaimed author of the Stonewylde series about the significance of the Blue Moon.  Back in the 90’s, I often drove past a long wall in Dorset and I’d imagine a secret world behind it – a walled off estate where strange things happened.  I was a school teacher then, and thought maybe I could write a children’s story based on this idea.  I would watch the full moon rise over the sea at Weymouth, where I lived,…
